Catherine II ordered a summer residence in the woods south of Moscow — and rejected it when it was nearly finished. What stands in the park today, in red brick and white stone, is an imperial ensemble two architects built and one empress never lived in: the Grand Palace, the Bread House, the bridges and the gates of Russian Gothic.

The story here is as good as the architecture
Vasily Bazhenov spent ten years building Tsaritsyno; Catherine arrived, walked through it and ordered the main palace torn down. Matvey Kazakov rebuilt it — and the empress died before it was finished. The palace then stood open to the sky for two centuries and was completed only in 2007.
Your guide keeps that chronology honest on the walk: what is Bazhenov, what is Kazakov, and what is twenty-first-century restoration. It makes the ensemble better, not worse — the two-century pause is part of what you are looking at.

Enter through the Figured Gate and walk the bridges to the Bread House and the Grand Palace. The guide separates Bazhenov's surviving buildings from Kazakov's palace and from the modern completion, so you always know what you are looking at. Interiors are visited when they are selected and open.
The park · Return

Tsaritsyno alone, older Kolomenskoye, or both in one day?
Tsaritsyno spent two centuries unfinished and came out the other side as a park with a palace inside — Russian Gothic at full scale, a landscape park around it, interiors chosen for your date, four to five hours of it. Kolomenskoye is the older answer, mostly open-air, three hours by the river. The Romanov Route refuses to choose and connects both estates in a single day.

Before you book Tsaritsyno
Is the Grand Palace original?
Its walls are eighteenth-century; the roof and interiors are a completion finished in 2007 after two centuries as a ruin. The guide keeps the line between original and restoration clear — the story is part of the tour.
Which interiors can we include?
The Grand Palace and Bread House, or the greenhouses. We confirm opening days and tickets before quoting; a park-only route is a valid choice too.
How much walking is it?
The ensemble and park mean a few unhurried kilometres. Comfortable shoes matter more than fitness — and the car waits where the walk ends.
Tsaritsyno or Kolomenskoye?
Tsaritsyno is architecture and a designed park; Kolomenskoye is older history and the river. If you cannot choose, the full-day Romanov Route combines both.
Are tickets and transport included?
The quotation states the car service, admissions and every included interior. Nothing is treated as included until it appears there.
