The Church of the Ascension was raised in 1532 to mark the birth of the future Ivan the Terrible — the first tent-roofed church built in stone, and the reason UNESCO lists this estate. Around it, Kolomenskoye keeps what palace museums cannot: the shape of a working royal household, with gates, courtyard, orchards and the river below.
The famous wooden palace of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich is a modern reconstruction standing in another part of the park — worth adding if the seventeenth-century court interests you, and clearly labelled as a reconstruction when we show it.

Kolomenskoye is where royal Moscow began: the white Church of the Ascension standing over the river since 1532, the Sovereign's Courtyard, orchards that still bear fruit. Three unhurried hours. Tsaritsyno is the younger, grander half-day — Gothic towers and a landscape park. If choosing between the two feels wrong, the Romanov Route simply takes both in one day.

Is the wooden palace of the tsars here?
A modern reconstruction of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich's palace stands in another part of the park — the original was dismantled in the eighteenth century. We include it as an option and always call it what it is.
When is the estate at its best?
Apple blossom in late May, gold in early October, quiet snow in winter. Almost everything is outdoors, so dress for the day.
How much walking is it?
Two to three easy kilometres, mostly on paths, with benches and river views where you want them. This is the slowest route we offer, on purpose.
Can we combine it with Tsaritsyno?
Yes — that is the full-day Romanov Route by private car, covering both estates with the chronology kept straight.
Are tickets included?
The grounds are free to enter. Church and museum interiors are ticketed, and your quotation states exactly what is included.
